about

These talks focus on a handful of anarchist periodicals that were produced in the United States in the early 20th century. This was an era in which revolutionary anarchism was a thriving, international movement, and in which militants communicated their ideas and kept each other informed largely through periodicals and public rallies. So papers such as these offer invaluable insights into anarchism as a movement in this period.

These talks were recorded in Barry's house in the Bay Area of California some years ago, on an old 4 track cassette redcorder. The BART trains can be heard passing outside, and the general feeling is of an informal chat among friends. At the time we were holding regular cultural events in the Bay Area, and this record is an outgrowth of those events.

Barry Pateman is a prolific and well regarded historian of anarchism and anarchist history, whose work can be found in print, on screen, and online.

Originally distributed in physical form by the Kate Sharpley Library. (www.katesharpleylibrary.net)
